At age 66, Marine Veteran Benny Leonard is an older adult himself, but he has found renewed purpose as a SCHAS caregiver serving older Veterans.
Two of Benny’s Veteran clients told WBIR’s John Becker that he has made a meaningful difference by helping with household chores, hygiene and, above all, companionship.
As a nonprofit, SCHAS provides in-home care for older adults, Veterans and people with disabilities, helping them stay safe and independent at home.
Watch WBIR’s moving story for a closer look at the special relationships Benny has built with his Veteran clients:
Many Veterans are able to receive in-home care with no out-of-pocket expense through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Homemaker and Home Health Aide (H/HHA) program, which provides care for eligible Veterans if their physician determines a clinical need for help with daily activities.
