For nearly 60 years, SCHAS has been the trusted nonprofit in East Tennessee providing premium in-home care to enhance quality of life for older adults, Veterans and people with disabilities.

Our skilled and compassionate caregivers provide first-class care with everything from meals, hygiene and daily chores to companionship – all to help individuals maintain safety, dignity and independence in their own homes.

For some families, this level of high-quality care seems out of reach, especially for those living on a fixed income or in rural areas where access to affordable care may be limited.

This is why we established the Equitable Access Program to ensure no one is denied needed care because of cost.

The program offers a low, flat rate for those who qualify and is funded with the help of compassionate donors.

We need continuing support to ensure older adults and people with disabilities in our community can experience the independence, dignity and connection everyone deserves.

A monthly gift helps bridge the gap to fund in-home care for vulnerable older adults and people with disabilities. What might fund a latte or treat for you could translate to a tidy kitchen, hearty meal or conversation that makes a person feel seen and valued.

Campbell County caregiver often prepares her client’s favorite meal: cabbage rolls. During a reassessment visit, a member of the SCHAS support team was greeted by the aroma of cabbage and sound of laughter drifting from the kitchen. Caregiver Jenifer trimmed boiled cabbage leaves and filled them while chatting with her client. It was more than a meal or a shift – it was a shared moment of joy and companionship with full bellies and full hearts.

A Blount County client says SCHAS makes caregiving affordable, improving her life by helping her maintain a clean home and enjoy meaningful friendship.

A clean home reduces fall risks and offers comfort and peace of mind.

SCHAS is the only licensed caregiving provider in East Tennessee offering this level of flexibility and compassion.

SCHAS recently conducted outreach to caregiving clients to assess their interest in and preferred frequency for check-in phone calls. The majority of respondents indicated they would like to receive weekly phone calls, demonstrating a desire for more connection, even among those who are already receiving care.

Studies show older adults are at an increased risk of social isolation and loneliness, often due to the death of a partner or loved ones, decreased mobility or chronic illness. Loneliness is linked with increased risk of heart disease, dementia, stroke, anxiety and depression.
