SCHAS receives National Award for SOS Shopping Program
Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service (SCHAS) is being honored today by the National Council on Aging (NCOA), the national voice for every person’s right to age well. They are honoring three individuals and three organizations from across the country who worked throughout the pandemic to ensure the health and financial security of older Americans. The honorees are being recognized at the NCOA 2021 Age+Action Virtual Conference, June 7-10.
Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service (SCHAS) is excited to be honored for our SCHAS Out Shopping Program (S.O.S. Program). In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, as businesses began to shut down, the team raised $20,000, created an intake system, and began promoting the free SCHAS Out Shopping (S.O.S.) service to bring food and other items to homebound older adults.
SCHAS has been serving seniors in East Tennessee since 1970. We serve 20 counties.
We are thrilled to receive this award and are proud to have been able to provide this service to the seniors of East Tennessee.
